up to the Massachusetts Scrabble® Clubs
This club resumed meeting at a new location on 21-May-07. Monday sessions are at the assisted living facility "Chestnut Park at Cleveland Circle". This is located at the intersection of Chiswick Rd. and Braemore Rd. in Brighton, MA. Although the mailing address is 57 Sutherland Rd., you cannot get into the building from that side.
If you start at the intersection of Chestnut Hill and Commonwealth and turn East toward Boston and immediately get into the Frontage Road parallel to Commonwealth. Turn right at the first street on your right; this is Braemore Road, which is a one-way street ending at Chiswick. Drive straight ahead into the parking lot, where you can park either to the left or to the right, despite the warning signs about after-hours parking.
In case you are approaching from a different direction, get to the intersection with a signal at Sutherland Rd. and Engelwood Ave. Go North on Englewood Ave. away from Beacon and towards Commonwealth. Chiswick Rd. is the first street on the right.
When leaving, if you want to get back to Chestnut Hill Avenue, proceed on Chiswick Rd. to the first street, and turn right onto Strathmore Rd. Go two blocks and make a very sharp right (almost a U-turn) at the signal at Englewood Ave. Stay on this for 3 blocks, and it brings you out to Chestnut Hill Avenue, where there is a Shell gas station.
The hours are from 7 p.m. to whenever, typically midnight. Whether a $1 fee is collected depends on whether Hilda is providing snacks. She does not do this from November through April. However, even when a fee is charged, it is waived for residents of the building.
One complication is that the building abides by kosher dietary laws, and so you cannot bring non-kosher food into the building. Hilda expects to provide snacks from May through October, and they will be reviewed/approved by the building staff. The building is also likely to provide some snacks.
Please let Mike Wolfberg know (at wolfberg@alum.mit.edu) if you want to be on this club's e-mail notification list, which is used primarily for last-minute cancellations.
Here are several topics which are covered in detail:
