Mike Wolfberg's 194-Point Play and High Loss Game

This game was played at the Thursday Ft. Lauderdale, FL Scrabble® Club on 11-Dec-03. This game includes Mike's highest (at that time) single-turn score of 194 points. He has subsequently made higher single-turn scores. It also is probably Mike's second-highest losing score next to a game he played only 17 days earlier when he scored 479 as a loser! See Mike's 1005-total-points game.

Although the game with the 479 loss was marred by the inclusion of a phony bingo Mike accepted, this game has no phonies remaining on the board.

Instead of playing a phony which Mike should know had no chance, since he knows UNITERS,TRIUNES, (and NUTSIER), but not UNTIRES, had he played 14-point NU at a14 to block Todd's only going-out play, he would have won the game by one point. Todd has several possible 12-point plays at n10, such as LAIRs, or he can play bASIL for 12 points at o11. He also can play sAL at e13 for 14, and Mike can go out with TIE for 10 points at i1. Mike would win with either 494-493 or 496-495, but then it would not have been a high loss for Mike!
