Since mid-June of 2003, this club meets at a gym on the campus of the
Chapel Hill - Chauncy Hall School
(CHCH) located at 785 Beaver Street in Waltham.
The hours are currently (as of September, 2008)
3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The doors are opened about 10 minutes before the start time
to allow for time to set up the nets, and they are locked up about
15 minutes after the ending time.
The gym has 3 courts, and the gym quality is high. The floor was
new in 2003 and has very clear yellow badminton lines.
The ceilings are high, and the lighting is good.
There is plenty of space outside of the courts, so you can warm up there.
There is no air conditioning.
Players tend to range from about tournament level A through D.
This is not a club for beginners.
Players are expected to bring their own racquets and feathered birds;
the club does not provide birds.
The person to contact with questions is organizer and player Tom Yang at
ShowJean@verizon.net.
Tom maintains an e-mail notification list for this club,
so if you would like to subscribe, please contact him.
The locations of the parking lots and the gym are shown
in a drawing included below.
The gym is in a long brown building with a green roof, named
the Claude F. Machen Student Center. Enter at the right end of the building,
turn right then left, and walk straight to the gym.
General Rules
- This is a non-smoking campus.
(Lexington St. is not far away from the gym - good luck for smokers.)
- Try not to bring food and drink into gym other than water.
This is not a strict requirement, but please use your own judgment.
There is a water fountain in the hallway just outside the gym.
- There is equipment in the gym other than for badminton, and
badminton players are requested to use none of this, including various
kinds of balls. Please use only the badminton facilities, water fountain,
and the restrooms.
- Children are allowed, but please take good care of them, especially
on the courts. The school and this club are not responsible for any
injury and loss. Because there is plenty of space outside the courts,
this is not a big issue - you just need to be very careful.
- Badminton players are asked to park in the parking lot #1,
where there are 18 spaces. This is shown in the drawing below.
After you drive into school, turn right onto the first road on your right,
and that leads you almost immediately to
Lot #1, next to a building labelled "The Barn".
If you cannot find a space in Lot #1, please then
proceed to Lots #2, #3, and #4; park in the lowest numbered lot you can.
This is what the school requested, and the club players should honor this.
