This is an adult activity of the Westford Recreation Department for players at least 18 years old. Middle and High School students are also welcome to play with parent presence, but parent participation is not required. This activity is held at the Westford, MA Blanchard Middle School at 14 West Street in Westford, MA. There are three courts with taped blue lines.

The fee is a $5 drop-in fee per night, and a mximum of 20 participants are allowed per night. No registration is needed. However, one must sign up with the Recreation Department, however the method for doing this has changed. I will include the details if/when someone informs me.

Players of all levels are welcome, from beginner/recreational to experienced/advanced. Beginners will be taught. Bring your own racquet. Feathered birds are available for purchase at the gym at $2 per birdie or $23 for a tube of 12. If you decide to purchase outside of the program, they must be these: "Aeroplane Excellent Grade EG1130 Black Label". One place these can be bought is http://shuttlecock101.com; just type the product name to search.

There has been a wide range of playing abilities of the players. Mostly, play is doubles, but there is ample time for some singles. There is no formal system of choosing who plays - with the current numbers and the willingness of all players to play anyone, this has not been a problem. The ceiling is very high, and bird visibility in general is pretty good.

The front entrance to the school is no longer to be used for this activity. Drive around to the right side of the building to park, and enter the school near the dumpsters. The gym is close to that entrance.

For more information, call the Recreation Department at 978-692-5532.
