Mike Wolfberg's Guide to State of Maine Restaurants

These are scattered around the state, along the coast:

Jordan's
Bar Harbor, ME
W-3
This place specializes in breakfasts. It advertises blueberry pancakes, but they were mediocre. The place was OK for breakfasts - not a must-return-to.

Lobster Pound
Lincolnville, ME
W-8
This was a convenient place to stop for dinner on the way from the Boston area to Bar Harbor. It is on Route 1, and on the water. It was so stormy when we were there, we could not appreciate the view. The deluxe shore dinner was good, albeit a bit large. It included lobster stew, steamers, fried clams, 2 lb. hard-shell lobster, baked potato, salad, dessert, beverage.

Parkside
Bar Harbor, ME
W-3
This is on the corner of Mt. Desert and the main drag through town. It was the best food we found in Bar Harbor. The crabcake was oustanding. The 2 lb. lobster was very good. The bouillabaise was oustanding. The Caesar salad was not worthy of getting again, but the house salad was good. The wine list was excellent; we enjoyed a Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay. They are open from mid-May through October. There is outside as well as indoor dining.

Street and Company
33 Wharf St., Portland, ME
W-8, F-24, D-19, S-21
This was a perfectly good place to try for the first time on the way back from Bar Harbor to Boston. We were able to get immediate seating outside, but there woudl have been a wait for inside. It is a popular and busy place. Although I don't recall specific things we ordered, it was all quite good, including excellent bread. Our waiter recommended a newish Rivolita. He also recommended Katahdin, which was closed on Mondays, contrary to the Boston Zagat.

This Way Cafe
Bar Harbor, ME
W-4
Someone had said they had a good dinner here. We tried them for breakfast. We had good (not great) Eggs Benedict outide on the porch. The indoors seemed much too warm. Breakfast is served only until 11, and they are closed on Sundays.

West Street Cafe
Bar Harbor, ME
W-1
This had rather mediocre lobster and just passable wines. This would not be worthy of a return visit.
